New release: JReviews 6.5.0

JReviews 6.5.0 is out. The tabbed listing layouts JReviews 5 sites have used for years are now available on the modern JReviews 6 pages, notification emails follow your site's language, and the control panel is better at telling you when something on your server is missing.

Tabbed listing pages and forms, now on JReviews 6

If you run JReviews 5, you may already use the tabbed listing detail layout and the tabbed submission form. Those layouts have now been ported to the modern JReviews 6 pages in Early Access, so a detailed listing can split its description, custom fields, photos, reviews and map across tabs instead of one long column.

The same applies to submissions. A listing form with many field groups can be presented as tabs, so a long submission becomes a few short steps.

If you already use these layouts in JReviews 5, you turn them on exactly the same way: the _tabs theme suffix on the listing detail page, and _tabbed on the listing form, set on the category or the menu item. The category wins over the menu item, so picking a category that asks for tabs switches the form as you choose it.

Notification emails in your site's language

With the Early Access Email Notifications option enabled, core notification emails carry the language of the site the action happened on, so a visitor working in French triggers a French notification instead of falling back to English. This release adds German, Spanish, French, Italian, Dutch, Brazilian Portuguese, and European Portuguese, and administrator mail is kept separate from customer mail so your staff notifications stay in one language. Sites still using the legacy notification system are unchanged.

The control panel tells you what is wrong

Three screens now surface problems that used to show up as confusing symptoms.

Setup Issues names the PHP functions your host has disabled that JReviews needs, and what stops working without each one, so "media uploads fail on this server" becomes a specific answer. Browse → Logs reports cron health, including how many scheduled tasks are registered, so a stalled cron is visible before queued email quietly stops going out. The Categories page shows which categories are not set up in JReviews and the repairs available.

Also in this release

• One gallery for photos and videos. Visitors can browse everything a listing has without switching between viewers, and videos can carry a caption just like photos do.
• Stronger protection against bad uploads. Files are now checked by what they actually contain rather than what they claim to be, and guest uploads are rate limited and screened by the abuse guard, so a disguised file or a flood of junk is turned away before it reaches your site.
• Safer add-on updates. If one add-on fails to install, it can no longer take your other add-ons down with it.
• Fewer mystery emails. Owner and reviewer notifications now reach the right people with the right details, including guest names and listing titles that previously went missing.

Alongside core, this release ships updates to MapsPro, PaidListings, EngageUsers, RapidLauncher, YOOtheme Pro, Listing Resources, PeepSo, User Profiles, Import, Widget Factory, and the Addons Manager.
